Living Single; Living Together

Fall 2021
Prof. Elle Gerdeman

Siteless // Forested Area

Designed from a given starting plan, this project utilizes the idea of a “shared ceiling.” Inhabitants are separated by layers of fabric and connected via an adaptive ceiling that guides them as a wayfinding mechanism. The ceiling becomes deeper and denser in private moments and shallow and light for public spaces. The threshold becomes vague as the curtain - acting as a wall - can be pulled and opened at many points. The project supposes a summer home duplex living scenario where two close families can share views of beautiful landscapes in their communal living spaces.
